What is a Live Vegan?

First, I prefer to use Live Vegan instead of Raw Vegan because raw means “uncooked, unprocessed, unprepared”, and though that fits, it does so only partially.  Because raw also means “painfully exposed, crude in quality, ignorant, and brutal”, which has nothing to do with my worldview.

Live means “to have life, to be alive, all things that live, to maintain or support existence, to direct and regulate one’s life, to experience or enjoy life to the full, to escape destruction”.  And this has everything to do with how I live my life.

Live Veganism is rich in live vegetables and fruits, nuts and sprouts, seaweed and herbs, and bright and colorful juices.  It excludes animal products and food of animal origin.  Likewise, it does not heat food over 118 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius).

Generally, there are three reasons why people choose this lifestyle: health, environment or spirituality.  Over the years I have met many Live Vegans who either focus on one aspect, two or all three.

By and large there are many misconceptions about the Live Vegan philosophy (as well as Vegan and Vegetarian), such as: not getting enough protein, to being anemic, to not getting adequate amounts of B12, to it just being down right unhealthy.  For the educated Live Vegan (Vegan and Vegetarian) these are non-issues, meaning most that choose this lifestyle do so with ample research.

As a Yogini I promote bodymind wellness, and as a Live Vegan I promote good nutrition through good eating, and good digestion.  In this blog I hope to share both passions – my love of Headstands and Green Juices, of Downward Facing Dogs and Vibrant Fruit, of Tree Pose and Sprouts – for these are ancient gifts that journey with us on the road of health and personal discovery, of centeredness and vibrancy!

Shanti and Metta!

Ya know…I also prefer to use the language of LIVE vs. RAW. For me it is like yin and yang. And my own self created truth is RAW sounds too much like WAR. And that s0und is so far from what we truly are. OM~Atmandas 🙂
